Sofia Varino (b. 1978, Portugal) is an NYC based interdisciplinary artist. Her work encompasses video, painting, movement, installation, digital media and public art. Recent projects include the
Mar Português (2012) video and public installation, and
Grid Scenes (2011), a performance in commemoration of the bicentenary of the NYC grid in collaboration with Art in Odd Places and The New School. She is associate director at
Harmattan Theater, an NYC collective devising site-specific works on global water politics and urban ecology. As a doctoral fellow, she is currently developing research on bodies and biopolitics at the department of
Cultural Analysis & Theory at Stony Brook University in New York.
